Maryland
Association of Paralegals Student Member Scholarship Information
The
Maryland Association of Paralegals (MAP) offers a scholarship on
an annual basis to a paralegal student based on the following: |

1.
All MAP scholarships are awarded without regard to race, color, creed,
sex or age.
2.
Scholarship applications are mailed February/March each year to the
directors of paralegal programs at all local schools for dissemination
to the students.
3.
Scholarship awards are presented at MAP’s annual celebration of
Paralegal Day in May.
4.
Each applicant must be enrolled in an actively participating in a minimum
of 6 hours of study in a paralegal education program.
5.
Each applicant must have and maintain a minimum grade point average
(GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale at the institution they are currently attending.
6.
The student must submit an essay, which shall be no more than three
pages double-spaced on a topic to be chosen by the Selection Committee
each year.
7.
The student must submit at least one Letter of Recommendation
from a school instructor or counselor.
8.
The student must submit a copy of their transcript.
9.
The student must submit all required documents, along with their application
on a date set by the Selection Committee.
10.
The student who maintains a minimum of a 3.0 GPA may apply and/or reapply
for additional scholarship funds on an annual basis.
11.
Scholarship(s) will be awarded upon the approval of the Selection Committee.
If scholarship(s) are awarded, they will be awarded as follows:
- one (1) scholarship will be awarded once annually in the amount of
$250.00, or as otherwise set by the Selection Committee.
12.
The Selection Committee reserves the right to not make a scholarship
award for good cause.
13.
The scholarship winner is announced at the annual MAP’s Paralegal
Day cocktail party, held usually the first Thursday in May (during Law
Week). The recipient and guests are invited to attend the party as guests
of MAP and a presentation is made at that time. The check for the actual
scholarship award is made payable to the student and the school in which
the student is enrolled.

Maryland Association of Paralegals Paralegal Advanced Competency Exam
(PACE) Scholarship Information
The Maryland
Association of Paralegals is pleased to announce that this year, along
with Courthouse Copy Service, we will offer two (2) PACE scholarships
to eligible paralegals, as follows:
1.
All MAP scholarships are awarded without regard to race, color, creed,
sex or age.
2.
Those interested must provide a letter certifying that you are eligible
to sit for PACE and that you will sit for the exam within one year.
3.
The winners will be chosen by a drawing.
4.
Each scholarship will be for $280. This amount covers the cost of the
PACE Study Manual ($55) and the Exam Fee ($225).
5.
The scholarships will be awarded at MAP’s Annual Paralegal Day
Gala in May.
Please provide
a letter stating that you are eligible to sit for PACE and willingness
to sit for the Exam within one year to:

Eligibility
Requirements to sit for PACE:
- An associates
degree in paralegal studies obtained from an institutionally accredited
and/or ABA approved paralegal education program; and six (6) years substantive
paralegal experience; OR
- A bachelor's
degree in any course of study obtained from an institutionally accredited
school and three (3) years of substantive paralegal experience; OR
- A bachelor's
degree and completion of a paralegal program with an institutionally
accredited school, said paralegal program may be embodied in a bachelor's
degree; and two (2) years substantive paralegal experience; OR
- Four (4)
years substantive paralegal experience on or before December 31, 2000.
