The Maryland Association of Paralegals (MAP) is comprised of students enrolled in paralegal programs, practicing paralegals and entities interested in supporting the paralegal profession. Our members live and work throughout the State of Maryland. They work in all areas of law, both the private and public sectors, and some are independent contractors or freelance paralegals.
Paralegals perform many different functions, and these functions differ greatly among practice areas. It is essential that each paralegal strive for personal and professional excellence and encourage the professional development of other paralegals as well as those entering the profession. Participation in professional associations intended to advance the quality and standards of the legal profession is of particular importance. Paralegals should possess integrity, professional skill and dedication to the improvement of the legal system. MAP provides professional enrichment and continuing educational opportunities to members through speakers at meetings and seminars. Seminars are taught by experienced paralegals, attorneys, judges, law librarians, and others experienced in various fields of law and business.
The Board
of Directors, Committees, and the general membership all have meetings
which members are encouraged to attend, including a cocktail party honoring
the Governor-proclaimed Maryland Paralegal Day in May, usually during
Law Week. In addition, an Annual Meeting is
held in the Fall of each year, with an awards presentation, dinner and
either a guest speaker or entertainment. Maryland
